Bay at the Bird Market
Boy at the Bird Market
A young boy sits surrounded by a wonderfully varied collection of birds—some perched freely on his hat and shoulders, others carefully held or waiting in small hanging cages. Their different colors, shapes, and personalities turn the scene into a lively little world of its own.
Boy at the Bird Market has a gentle sense of humor, but also a hint of mystery. Is the boy selling the birds, collecting them—or perhaps deciding which ones should be set free?
The balance of cages and uncaged birds gives the painting a quiet underlying theme of freedom, choice, and our relationship with the natural world, while the bright blue background and whimsical characters keep the image warm and playful.
